Year 8 Science Experiments
The year 8 students are currently learning about chemical reactions in Science class. The following two experiments were carried out:
Students reacted zinc metal with hydrochloric acid to produce hydrogen gas. Because hydrogen is flammable they place a lighter near the gas. If it 'pops' it means they have successfully produced and collected hydrogen gas.
Students also reacted copper sulfate solution with an iron nail to produce a coating of copper metal on the nail. They are holding a sheet of white paper behind the test tube to highlight the copper coating and the colour of the solution.
